The Thin Green Line Delivers
Since the successful July 31st World Wide Premiere involving 35 countries, 330 locations and 15,000 people, The Thin Green Line Foundation has delivered on it’s promise of supporting the families of rangers killed on the frontline of conservation.
On October 6th 2007, Girlie Ndolvu, wife of Nelson received $1000USD to help support her family. This would have been close to half a years wage that her husband Wilon was being paid, before he was killed by a charging elephant in Kruguer National Park while he was on an anti-poaching patrol.
Also receiving $1000USD via the Game Ranger Association of Africa is Boyi who was shot and killed by poachers in KwaZulu Natal South Africa, and the family of Fred Nthuli, who was also shot and killed by poachers.
Sean Willmore, founding director of TTGLF, personally presented the families with the cheques and said:
"We understand this can no way compensate for the loss of their loved one’s, but it goes someway to recognising their sacrifice and alleviating the financial stress their passing has made. This had been made possible by the generous support of all the people and sponsors who supported The Thin Green Line through DVD purchases, hosting and/or attending premier showings” stated Wilmore.
The proceedings At Umgeni Valley wildlife reserve were opened by world renowned conservationist and previous ranger, Dr Ian Player concluding with the handing over of certificates of recognition and the $1000USD to each involved family.
Girlie was very emotional and stated that the money would help look after her and Wilson's nine children (she did find time to laugh at Sean's lack of Zulu or Shangan and his Australian accent!).
On the trip Sean also met with and secured the support of The World Conservation Union (IUCN) and International Ranger Federation (IRF). Both organisations have been instrumental in supporting rangers and the TTGLF to date and are set to take on formal roles as Directors of the Foundation.
“It's great to have both the IUCN and IIRF onboard in a formal capacity with TTGLF. They have been working hard to support rangers in their own right and this is some positive recognition of the role TTGLF has to play in the future for supporting the work of rangers and their families” stated Wilmore.
Sean’s trip overseas to present these funds and further the development of The Thin Green Line Foundation was generously supported by Pat Gerry, Bronwyn Fadden, Bruce Gall and Sean himself.
But it doesn't stop there…with your continued support this is only the beginning of the foundations efforts!
Soon to come will be the unveiling of Project Connect where you will have the opportunity of getting involved directly with ranger and conservation projects around the globe.
The Thin Green Line’s policy is that 100% of profits from DVD sales and documentary showings will hit the ground for the families of rangers killed while also aiding the administration of the organisation. You can continue to support the foundation through donations, purchasing the DVD and brand new TTGLF t-shirts.
We are seeking sponsorship to support the administration of the foundation to ensure your money goes where you intended. For further information on sponsorship opportunities or general enquiries get in contact.
Thankyou.
